Where is the MIND??

Where is the MIND? Is it in the Brain? or Heart? or Lungs? or Stomach?  These were the questions asked by our lecturer. To this most might tell “Brain”. Even I thought the same in the beginning. But my question was;  if it is in Brain, can we see it? No. We can’t. None of the Anatomy book proves it. Even our lecturer didn’t give us any answer. It was taken for granted by students that if lecturer is not stressing  on it, then there is no need for them to exercise their Brains regarding it. :) Moreover, such kind of questions are not asked in Exams(thats what most of the students wants-’good marks’ by just by-hearting the things even though he/she can’t understand the topic). ;)

Suddenly I started thinking about the same questions. Lots of questions popped in my mind at that time. Wondered whether Mind is really in Brain. If not in Brain then where else? Why is that analogy- If  Mind is to Brain then Soul is to Heart? Inspite of no proof, people still believe it.  But when it comes to God, many don’t believe in God because we can’t see him/her. I am not forcing such people to believe. Its their views. I myself don’t believe in God completely.I just think that there is some supernatural power. Well enough of it now. I don’t want to talk about God here. If you want to see some of good posts on god, you can check the following links: Pavan and Su. ;)

Coming back to the point,  concept of the Mind is something very complicated to understand and still more complicated to explain. They talk about it in Philosophy and as well as in Science. In Philosophy, the Mind is related to some spiritual thing but in Science we study it under Psychology where they consider it at mental level. And at one point, we end up relating the Soul and the Mind. How would you people relate it? I seriously have very random thoughts regarding this.

Here is what I thought after those series of questions.                                                                                                  Mind is of course immaterial. Mind is not a part of  Brain but its product. It is just a mechanism by Brain to carry out several functions like thinking, reasoning, memory, perception etc. Somethings can’t be seen but can definitely be felt. But i still can’t think of a reason why do we people believe that Soul belongs to Heart. :P

Thats all I could think of. But I am still not convinced with this. I didn’t want to google it and see. I want to know what you people think about it. I am looking forward to your comments.

Where IS the mind? Pretty good post you have here. It prepares a good base for a great discussion. And the direct question asked to the reader ensures comments; and possibly more hits. But the preparation is not adequate.

It starts off well with a small portion of a personal rant in the middle of it all. But one does tend to overlook it by the time they reach the second paragraph. Now this is again very unnecessary. But I don’t mind as I get a pingback to my site. :P :D

But that aside, theology is nowhere connected to the post; though it exists in the post. It was not necessary since it takes up most part of the post. The post isn’t a very long one. It could have been longer.

Coming to the content, one might start to wonder what the hell IS the mind? I offer my opinion as – Brain is a physical quantity. Mind is a physiological quantity. To the people who don’t know the difference, it means one is measurable and the other can be felt. According to me, the mind is such a complicated riddle that no man can solve it successfully for a generalized set.

Mind is unique. It is definition. It is the immaterial materialization of a person. Anybody willing to offer a clearer opinion? :)

Thanks for your sincere opinion on the post. What I mainly wanted in this post was the answer for that question.I could have dragged it still further but I didn’t want to. I have expressed what I wanted to in a simple manner.:)
And I completely agree with your views about Mind. :)

That was a pretty good inquisition. I’l leave out the “cud hav been better” parts as Pavan has already gone thru tht ordeal.

A human being is not just a bunch of interconnected organs. That which makes him what he actually is, is the mind. Of course, all the data processing and analysis happens in the brain. I can give you a vague analogy. Brain is the hardware. Mind is the software. You can touch the brain, the same way in which you can touch any hardware.

You must be familiar that software defines and justifies the purpose of the hardware, and hardware performs the operations in response to the stimuli provided by the user. A bug free system is a one that can act with least possible logical conflicts between what is required and what is asked. Both are very very important. Just because you cannot touch the software physically, can you deny its existence?

Mind is mostly related to the brain in the same way a software is mostly related to the processor. The purpose of the mind is served to the largest extent in the brain the same way in which the purpose of software is served to the largest extent in the processor.

But this does not defeat the purpose of existence of other parts. If brain takes care of the physical commands that are to be given to the parts of your body, Mind just justifies the issuing of the commands such that you have no logical conflicts between the stimuli in the environment and your response to it.

PS:You made me take a peek at WordPress after my indefinite exile. thnx:) . And Do improve your writing skills. I wont suggest anything. Just read lots and lots and compare them with your writings. Your MIND will tell your BRAIN, what changes you’ll have to make. :) Have a gr8 going.

small correction. “A bug free system is a one that can act with least possible logical conflicts between what is required and what is done.”

You started off will but kind of lost out in the second paragraph :( (

Actually this topic by itself is a bit confusing and I dont blame you for that ! :)

I think that brain is physical as in the part of a body for any living thing … and a ‘MIND’ is the highly functions of the brain like emotions, intelligence, memory, thinking, reasoning, dreams (!! ??), personality (??) …

And it will not be false if I say that all living beings have a brain and also a mind … it is only the degree of evolution that is different … what do you think ? :)

    Bugs.
